Managing Your Email Addresses

Every email-webhook account starts with one incoming address, labelled Default address, created automatically when you sign up. Each address has its own set of webhooks. Mail sent to an address only ever triggers that address's webhooks.

Creating an address

At the bottom of the dashboard, the New address card lets you create another address. You can fill in two optional fields:

Field What it does
Prefix A readable start for the address, e.g. invoices gives you invoices-k3j9x2m8q4@email-webhook.com. Letters, digits and dashes only; anything else is turned into a dash.
Label A private name shown only on your dashboard, e.g. "Supplier invoices".

The random part after the prefix is always added, so nobody can guess your address from the prefix alone.

How mail is routed

When a message arrives at one of your addresses, email-webhook picks one webhook for it:

  1. Webhooks that are paused, or that belong to a paused address, are skipped.
  2. A webhook whose From email matches the sender wins over a webhook with no From email (a catch-all).
  3. If several webhooks are equally specific, the oldest one wins. Adding a new webhook therefore never takes traffic away from an existing one.

If no webhook matches, the message is accepted but not delivered anywhere.

Pausing an address

Click Pause on an address to stop accepting mail for it. While it's paused, sending servers get a permanent "user unknown" rejection, so senders find out the mail didn't arrive. Click Resume to start accepting mail again. Your webhooks are kept as they are.

Rotating an address

If an address leaks, click Rotate. The address gets a new random part and keeps its prefix, label and webhooks. The old address stops working immediately, so update anything that sends to it. To confirm, type rotate in the dialog that opens.

Deleting an address

Delete removes the address and all of its webhooks. Mail sent to it afterwards is rejected. This can't be undone, so you'll be asked to type delete to confirm.

On the free plan you can't delete your only address. Rotate it instead if you need a fresh one.

Plans and limits

The free plan includes one address. Pro plans with more addresses are coming soon.
